Ingredients
Equipment
- Medium saucepan
- Fork
Instructions
Step 1: Put the rice and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
Step 2: Bring the water to a simmer until the entire surface is rippling.
Step 3: Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Reduce the heat to medium-low so the rice simmers gently, or use low heat if your stove runs strong.
Step 4: Cook for 13 minutes without stirring or removing the lid.
Step 5: The water should be absorbed. Quickly tilt the saucepan and lift the lid to check.
Step 6: Replace the lid, take the saucepan off the stove, and leave the rice to rest for 10 minutes.
Step 7: Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve.
About this recipe
Use this stovetop method to cook plain white rice. Choose long-, medium-, or short-grain rice, Jasmine rice, or basmati.
Keep the lid on while the rice cooks, then let it rest off the heat before fluffing.
