Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 220°C/425°F, or heat the broiler/grill to high with the shelf about 30 cm/12 inches from the heat source.
Step 2: Pile the beans on a tray. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the oil, then add the garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss.
Step 3: Line the beans up on the tray, pushing them next to each other. Arrange them in two rows if you like.
Step 4: Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the beans, followed by the Parmesan. Drizzle with the remaining oil.
Step 5: Roast for 15 minutes or broil/grill for 8 minutes, until the Parmesan is golden.
Step 6: Use a spatula to transfer the beans to a serving platter. Serve immediately.
Notes
Panko breadcrumbs are larger than regular breadcrumbs and give the topping extra crunch. You can also make your own breadcrumbs.
If you grate the Parmesan yourself, use about twice the volume, since freshly grated cheese takes up more space for the same weight.
For frozen green beans, thaw them, drain well, and pat dry before using.

About this recipe
Fresh green beans are tossed with garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper, then topped with panko and Parmesan. Roast or broil them until the cheese is golden.

The panko and Parmesan bake into crunchy bits across the beans, with some forming crisp Parmesan wafers.
