Instructions

  1. Step 1: If any leaves are especially large, as rosemary and thyme can be, finely chop them with a knife or use a spice grinder. This helps release more flavor.

  2. Step 2: Mix the dried herbs, then use the blend in a recipe.

  3. Step 3: Store in an airtight jar in a cool, dry pantry for up to 3 months, or for the shelf life of the herbs used.

Notes

Savory can replace the marjoram. In France, savory is traditionally part of the blend; marjoram is used here as a readily available alternative with a similar gentle herbal flavor.

Store the blend in an airtight jar in a cool, dry pantry for up to 3 months, or for the shelf life of the herbs used.

About this recipe

Make a fragrant French herb blend with dried thyme, rosemary, marjoram and oregano. Use it to season chicken, roasted vegetables, stews, fish or a quick salad dressing.

Thyme and rosemary lead the blend, with marjoram and oregano adding a quieter herbal note.
