Base
Topping
Equipment
- 8-inch (20 cm) square dish or pan
- Bowl
Instructions
Step 1: Butter an 8-inch (20 cm) square dish or pan and line it with baking paper.
Step 2: Place the base ingredients in a bowl and mix until combined. Press the mixture into the prepared pan.

Step 3: Melt the topping ingredients. Pour the mixture over the base and spread it evenly. Smooth the top or make swirls.

Tip: The chocolate can be melted in the microwave in two 30-second bursts.
Step 4: Refrigerate until set, about 1 1/2 hours. Remove from the fridge and let the bars come to room temperature slightly so the top cuts neatly. Cut into 16 squares, or another shape if you prefer. Serve at room temperature.
Notes
Plain sweet, crisp biscuits work for the base. Digestive biscuits are a suitable option in the UK. For easier, smoother melting, use chocolate intended for cooking or baking, such as melting chocolate chips.
Store the bars in an airtight container for around 5 days. In very hot weather, keep them in the fridge and serve at room temperature.
