- Cocktail shaker
Instructions
Salt rim
Step 1: Chill the glasses in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Place the salt in a small dish.
Step 3: Rub the rim lightly with a lime wedge, then press the rim down into the salt.
Mix and serve
Step 4: Place the ingredients for either version in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake 15 times to chill well.
Step 5: Strain into a cocktail glass or tumbler. Adding ice to the glass is optional.
Notes
For a big batch, mix the margaritas in a jug and keep it in the fridge. Leave out the ice so it does not melt and dilute the drink; reusable ice cubes are another option.

About this recipe
A classic margarita gets its fresh, zingy flavor from tequila, lime juice and Cointreau, with no added sugar. For a variation, mix tequila and lime with orange juice and light agave nectar.

The classic recipe follows a 3:2:1 ratio of tequila, lime juice and Cointreau. Use the same measuring vessel for each ingredient if scaling the drink.
